Honeypot Security

Honeypot is a simple and effective anti-spam technique that works silently in the background. It adds a hidden field to your form that only bots can detect. If this field is filled, Gutena Forms automatically identifies the submission as spam and blocks it.

Enable Honeypot Protection

Method 1: Configure Directly Within Your Form

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, go to Gutena Forms → Forms and open the form where you want to enable Honeypot.
  2. In the block editor, click on the main Form block to open the settings panel in the right sidebar.
  3. Scroll down to the Honeypot section and toggle to enable.

Time Limit (in seconds): Enable Time Limit to block submissions that are completed faster than the defined time (e.g., under 4 seconds). This helps detect and prevent automated bot submissions.

Note: If Honeypot is already configured via Global Settings, those settings will be pre-filled. Changes made here will apply only to this form.

Method 2: Configure via Global Settings

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Gutena Forms → Settings → Spam Protection → Honeypot.
  2. Toggle on Honeypot to enable it.
  3. You can also enable Time Limit to add an extra layer of protection.
  4. Click Save Settings.

Note: If configured globally, Honeypot will be applied to all forms by default.

Configuring Honeypot Protection

Honeypot works automatically once enabled and does not require any API keys or external setup.

  • Honeypot Field: Adds a hidden field that only bots can detect.
  • Time Limit (Optional): Blocks submissions that are completed too quickly, helping detect automated scripts.
  • This makes Honeypot a lightweight and zero-friction spam protection method.
